Growing Peanut Butter Recall

Comments Off

The peanut butter recall affecting the Peter Pan and Great Value brands manufactured by ConAgra Foods, and contaminated by salmonella continues to grow. Initially, the recall affected only those jars of peanut butter with a product code that begins 2111, which included all jars manufactured by ConAgra since May, 2006. However, it appears even more products are at issue.

Today, the FDA has expanded the recall to include 3/4 ounce and 1.1 ounce single serving packs of Peter Pan. The FDA is currently attempting to determine who bought the affected single serving packs, so that consumers will not use the products.

The recall is extremely large, as Peter Pan is sold in grocery stores nationwide, and Great Value is sold in Wal-Mart stores also nationwide. It’s become clear that the products were also shipped to 60 countries outside the U.S.

Nearly 300 people in 41 states have been sickened by the outbreak of salmonella caused by the peanut butter.
